It is written: 'The first man Adam became a living being (Genesis 2:7) ; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.' - (1 Corinthians 15:45) The Hebrew word for 'man' is 'Adam', which sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew word for 'ground', which is 'Adamah'. Since the first man was formed from the ground, that became his name! That is understandable! But for God to become 'man' or 'Adam' by putting on a body made from the 'ground' or 'Adamah' and to be called "Adam", is a mystery beyond understanding ! 'Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body (or in the flesh), was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.' - (1 Timothy 3:16) But what was the need for God to take on a body made from the 'ground' or 'Adamah' ? To redeem the descendants of the first Adam, who became slaves to sin and could not save themselves! So another 'Adam', with a body made of 'ground' or Adamah, had to come, but from a different lineage, who was not tainted by sin and so he was born as the seed of the woman! 'When the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, BORN UNDER THE LAW, TO REDEEM THOSE UNDER THE LAW, that we might receive the full rights of sons.' - (Galatians 4:4-5)
The Second Adam had to be born under the law to redeem those under the law because it was impossible for those born from the first Adam to obey the law, as the Spirit of God had departed from Adam when he sinned. 'For what the LAW WAS POWERLESS TO DO, in that it was weakened by the flesh or sinful nature, GOD DID by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be met in us.' - (Romans 8:3) Since the 'Second Adam' was born without sin, he had the Spirit of God in him and therefore could fully obey the law! Having fulfilled the requirements of the law, he abolished it! 'He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.' - (Colossians 2:13-14) We are no longer under the supervision of the law but under the supervision of the Spirit! 'For through the law we died to the law, so that we might live for God.' - (Galatians 2:19) We have now become like the 'Second Adam' or the 'Heavenly Man' ! 'The first man was of the dust of the earth, the SECOND MAN from heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the HEAVENLY MAN , so also are those who are of heaven.' - (1 Corinthians 15:47) Where the first has Adam failed, the second Adam has prevailed! There is no longer any need for another sacrifice for our sins. Hence Jesus is not only called the 'Second Adam' but is also called the 'Last Adam'. Hallelujah !
