"Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God." - (Matthew 5:9) We have heard the expression "like Father, like son" which means 'a son's character or behaviour can be expected to resemble that of his father'. Even so its only rational to expect a believer's character or behaviour to resemble that of our heavenly Father. He took the initiative to reconcile with men! 'He reconciled to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood shed on the cross.'- (Colossians 1:20) And having reconciled us to him, he has entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to us. 'All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the MESSAGE OF RECONCILIATION. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.' - (2 Corinthians 5: 18-20) This is the essence of all ministerial work: Helping unbelievers to reconcile with God and man.
However, some so called "believers" are not willing to reconcile and make peace with men, yet they call themselves "sons of God"! Their accuser will be God himself! 'You speak continually against your brother/ sister and slander your own mother's son/daughter. These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.' - (Psalm 50:20-21) To reconcile is not optional but mandatory for all believers. "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother/sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother/sister; then come and offer your gift." - (Matthew 5:23-24) Those who do this are called "peacemakers" and they will be called "sons/daughters of God". A Christian must not have any enmity though it is probable that others may hate us for no reason. But 'if it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone ... Do not take revenge, my friends but leave room for God's wrath ...' - (Romans 12:18-19) Not only if it is possible, but the Bible exhorts us to 'make every effort to live in peace with all men ...' - (Hebrews 12:14) Amen.
